Q. When does Music From Another World come out?
A: It comes out March 31, 2020, in the U.S. and Canada, and May 28, 2020, in the U.K.
Q. But can I preorder it, like, now?
A: Yes you can! Here are some links to preorder it. But I recommend reaching out to your favorite local independent bookstore and asking them to order it for you! You can also request that your local library order it.
Q. What else can you tell me about Music From Another World?
A: Here are a few tidbits:
- – It’s epistolary, meaning the whole story is told in the form of letters and diary entries.
- – The story starts on Orange Tuesday (June 7, 1977) and ends on Election Night 1978.
- – I got to do a ton of really interesting research for this book, from learning way more than I ever thought I’d know about Cher to reading Anita Bryant’s memoirs. (I recommend the former and highly discourage the latter.)
- – Punk music plays a big role in this book. If you want a glimpse into the story’s mood, watch Patti Smith sing on SNL on Easter Sunday 1976.
- – I fell in love with Tammy and Sharon while I was writing their story, and now I can’t wait for you to meet them too!
